The short version. Exotic Car News is a free, advertising-supported publication. We do not sell your personal information for money. We do use Google AdSense, which places advertising cookies and may use your activity to personalize the ads you see — this activity may constitute “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under applicable California privacy law, and you can opt out below. We use Google Analytics to understand which stories people read, and Google reCAPTCHA to keep spam off our forms. You can read the whole site without giving us your name or email address.
1. Who we are
Exotic Car News (“ECN,” “we,” “us,” “our”) publishes editorial coverage of exotic, luxury and performance automobiles at exoticcarnews.com. ECN is a publication of Exotic Motors Media LLC
This policy explains what information we collect when you visit the site, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what choices you have. It applies to exoticcarnews.com and any pages, feeds or newsletters we operate under the Exotic Car News name.
For privacy questions, data requests or complaints, contact us through our contact page.
2. Information you give us
Most of the site works without you giving us anything. You only provide information when you choose to:
- Subscribe to our newsletter. We collect your email address, and your name if you provide it.
- Contact us or send a news tip. We collect whatever you put in the form or your message — typically your name, email address and the substance of your message, plus any files you attach.
- Leave a comment, where commenting is enabled. We collect the name, email address and any website you enter, the comment itself, your IP address and your browser’s user agent string. The last two are retained for spam detection.
- Apply, pitch or do business with us — for example, advertising inquiries or contributor pitches. We collect the contact and background details you send.
Please do not send us sensitive personal information (government ID numbers, financial account numbers, health information) through our forms. We do not need it and do not want it on file.
3. Information collected automatically
Like nearly all websites, our servers and our service providers automatically record certain technical information when you visit:
- IP address and approximate location derived from it (typically city or region level)
- Browser type and version, operating system and device type
- Pages viewed, time spent, scroll depth and the links you click
- The referring page or search that sent you here
- Date and time of your visit
We use this to keep the site running, diagnose errors, defend against abuse and automated traffic, and understand which stories are worth writing more of.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We and our service providers use them for the purposes below. Some are set by us; most are set by third parties operating on the site.
| Category | What it does | Set by |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keeps the site working — page delivery, security, load balancing, spam protection on forms, and remembering that you are logged in if you have an account. | Exotic Car News, WordPress, Google reCAPTCHA |
| Analytics | Measures traffic and reading behavior in aggregate so we know which coverage works. | Google Analytics |
| Advertising | Serves ads, limits how often you see the same ad, measures whether ads were seen or clicked, and — unless you opt out — personalizes ads based on your activity. | Google AdSense and its advertising partners |
| Preferences | Remembers choices such as display settings or that you dismissed a notice. | Exotic Car News |
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may break parts of the site. For ad-specific controls, see the next section.
5. Advertising
Exotic Car News is supported by advertising. We use Google AdSense to serve display advertising.
- Google and its partners use cookies and similar identifiers to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by Google at Google Ads Settings. Opting out does not remove ads; it makes them less relevant.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by many other vendors at optout.aboutads.info and optout.networkadvertising.org.
- More on how Google uses data from sites that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland. We are implementing a consent management platform for visitors in these regions. Until it is in place, advertising functionality may be limited. You can also manage Google’s advertising personalization through the Google Ads Settings link above, or contact us through our contact page.
Sponsored and affiliate content. If we publish sponsored content, or use links that may earn us a commission, we label it clearly on the page. Advertisers do not get to review, approve or influence our editorial coverage.
6. Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand site traffic in aggregate. Google processes this data on our behalf and may set cookies to distinguish returning visitors. We do not use Analytics to identify you personally, and we do not combine Analytics data with your name or email address.
You can prevent Analytics from collecting your activity with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
7. Newsletter and email
If you subscribe, we use a third-party email service provider to store your address and send our newsletter. That provider records standard email metrics such as whether a message was opened and which links were clicked, which we use to judge what our readers want more of.
Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time. We do not sell, rent or trade our subscriber list.
8. Spam protection
Our forms are protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which analyzes hardware and software information and interaction data to distinguish humans from bots. Its use is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
9. How we use your information
We use the information described above to:
- Deliver, maintain and secure the site
- Respond to your messages, tips and inquiries
- Send the newsletter you asked for
- Measure readership and improve our editorial coverage
- Serve and measure advertising, which pays for the journalism
- Detect and prevent fraud, spam, scraping and abuse
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms
Legal bases (EEA/UK). Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: your consent for newsletter subscriptions and non-essential cookies; our legitimate interests in operating, securing and improving a free publication and in basic analytics; contract where you have an account or agreement with us; and legal obligation where the law requires it.
10. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share it only in these situations:
- Service providers and technology partners, as necessary to provide, secure, analyze and monetize the site — hosting, content delivery and security, email delivery, analytics and advertising — subject to their applicable contractual and privacy obligations.
- Advertising partners, as described in section 5. Under the California CPRA and similar laws, this kind of cross-context behavioral advertising may be treated as “sharing” your information, and you may opt out — see section 11.
- Legal and safety reasons — to comply with law, a subpoena or a valid government request, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our readers, our staff or the public.
- Business transfers — if Exotic Car News or Exotic Motors Media LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, information may transfer as part of that transaction. We will note any material change to how your information is handled.
We do not share the contents of confidential news tips with anyone outside our editorial team except where we are legally compelled to do so.
11. Your rights and choices
Everyone
- Unsubscribe from our newsletter using the link in any email.
- Manage or block cookies in your browser settings.
- Opt out of personalized ads using the links in section 5.
- Ask us what we hold on you, or ask us to delete it, through our contact page.
California residents
Where the California Consumer Privacy Act applies to us, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to request deletion, to request correction, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
To opt out of advertising-related sharing, use the Google and industry opt-out links in section 5, or submit a request through our contact page with “California opt-out” in your message. An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf with written proof of authorization.
EEA, UK and Switzerland (GDPR)
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing already carried out. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.
Global Privacy Control
Where the law requires it, we treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal sent by your browser as a valid request to opt out of the sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising.
We respond to verifiable requests within the timeframes the applicable law requires. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.
12. How long we keep information
- Newsletter subscriptions — until you unsubscribe, plus a short suppression record so we do not email you again by mistake.
- Contact and tip messages — as long as needed to handle the matter, and afterwards where there is a legitimate editorial or legal reason to retain them.
- Comments — indefinitely, so follow-up discussion stays intelligible, unless you ask us to remove them.
- Analytics data — per the retention period configured in Google Analytics, after which it is deleted or anonymized.
- Server and security logs — a short rolling window, typically measured in weeks.
13. International transfers
We operate from the United States and our service providers are primarily US-based. If you access the site from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country. Where required, transfers from the EEA or UK rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or another approved safeguard implemented by the relevant provider.
14. Security
We use HTTPS across the site, restrict administrative access, and rely on reputable providers for hosting and email. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your interaction with us is no longer secure, contact us immediately.
15. Children
Exotic Car News is written for a general adult audience and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us through our contact page and we will delete it.
16. Links to other sites
Our articles link to manufacturers, auction houses, event organizers, other publications and our affiliated properties, including our sister marketplace Motor Stables and Exotic Motors. Once you follow a link, you are on that site and subject to its privacy policy, not ours. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of sites we do not operate.
17. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices, our tools or the law change. The date at the top always reflects the current version. If we make a material change, we will flag it prominently on the site before it takes effect. We encourage you to review this page periodically for updates to our privacy practices.
